The Impact of the Coronavirus

The Coronavirus outbreak has taken over the world and is impacting people from all walks of life. Those vulnerable to addiction are more at risk when self-isolating and social distancing. During these highly stressful times, it can lead to a detrimental effect on physical and mental wellbeing. As many businesses close down and people stay home, we at Steps Together will ensure that we are on hand to help you to the best of our ability in these troublesome times.

Impact on Mental Health

One of the major battles for people already struggling with addiction is mental wellbeing. For this vulnerable demographic, the temptation to slip back into substance abuse is more tempting than usual, due to fewer activities to keep the mind occupied.

It is also a very stressful time period for people as they are concerned about their job security, their own health and their families wellbeing, as well as there being fewer ways to unwind. This can really take a toll on someone’s mental health, leading them back to substance use to help through this period.

Challenges of Getting Help

There are many treatment centres which are being forced to close down, with many people being concerned about having to go somewhere to get help and be at risk of catching the disease.

For those who don’t want to go to a treatment centre to get help, but would still like some guidance on how to navigate these challenging times, online service can be very helpful. At Steps Together, we are advising clients old and new to use as many online and over the phone facilities as possible as it is the most convenient and risk-free option available.

Guidance is available for people struggling 24/7 on blogs and forums, where you can ask questions and learn from others who are in the same boat as you. And for people who are looking for one-on-one advice and help, there are phone-in support lines and online chats where you can get in touch with an expert for support.
