Why we stand with the LGBTQIA+ Community during Pride Month

Supporting LGBTQ+ Community

At Steps Together, we believe in celebrating all forms of love and support for the LGBTQIA+ community. This June, we’re doing our part to show our solidarity by flying the Pride flag across each of our facilities, and we encourage all our employees to support this. This is just a small way for us to show our support for the LGBTQ+ community. We will continue to stand up for equality and fairness, and we hope you will join us in celebrating Pride Month. We know that Pride is a time to come together and celebrate, but it’s also a time to reflect on the work that still needs to be done to achieve full equality for our LGBTQIA+ community.

Pride Month is an annual event where people across the country come together to celebrate, speak out, and march against injustice against the LGBTQ+ community. The month of June is designated to celebrate the following things:
  • Opportunity to recognise the progress made in achieving equal rights and greater acceptance for members of the queer community
  • A time for us to come together and celebrate identities and the progress we have made towards becoming an open and more inclusive society
  • An important reminder of the work still left to be done in creating a world where everyone is accepted and respected regardless of who they love or how they identify
  • To recognise the history and accomplishments of the LGBTQ+ movement
  • To raise awareness of the challenges that LGBTQ+ people still face
  • To educate others on the importance of acceptance, respect, and equality for all people

The importance of Pride Month

Pride is so important because it promotes the visibility and acceptance of LGBTQ+ community. It is a celebration of diversity, acceptance, and love that highlights the contributions and struggles of the LGBTQ+ community throughout history. Pride events also provide a safe space for vulnerable populations, such as LGBTQ+ youth, to gather, socialise, and find support.  Moreover, it serves as a reminder to continue fighting for equal rights and resisting discrimination against LGBTQ+ individuals. Ultimately, gay pride brings people together and inspires positivity, hope, and progress towards a more inclusive world. Pride Month is an important time for the LGBTQ+ community and for everyone who believes in equality. It is a time to come together and celebrate our progress, and to continue fighting for a world where everyone can live free from discrimination!

Why Gay Pride Month is in June

June was chosen for Pride Month because it was the same month that the Stonewall Riots took place in 1969. The month-long celebration serves to recognise the progress that has been made in LGBTQ+ rights and to fight for a world in which all people can live free from discrimination, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity.
