I cannot thank Steps Together enough for the support they have given my son.
True Stories from a family member
My son is 29 years old now, and for the last three years, he started gambling and then became involved in the world of drugs and alcohol. He became aggressive. He lived in a world of lies. We didn’t know where he was at night. He lost two jobs. He got himself into so much debt, just by being so, so deceitful.
We actually tried to get him some help. But as all addicts do, they deny everything and convince you It’s not them. Then about six months ago, I received a very distraught call from one of his friends who, even though he felt he was betraying my son. He said he just needed help urgently.
We were then put in touch with Darren Rolfe from Steps Together, who then spoke to me and my husband and his friends, and we arranged an intervention, even though this intervention was very, very traumatic, we realised my son had hit rock bottom, and during the intervention, he just broke down and admitted he needed help.
With Darren Rolfe’s help, he was taken to one of the Steps Together rehabilitation centres in Leicester, which actually was a lifesaver, because personally, I think it saved his life. He spent time there and he got the help that he urgently needed. And I cannot thank Steps Together enough for the support they have given my son and us as a family, and I’m happy to say that he is on the road to recovery now, and Steps Together continue to support, to support my son and us as a family and I just cannot thank them enough.
