Aftercare Expectations

Aftercare creates an opportunity for ex clients to model to those still in treatment how life can be as a sober recovering addict.

There are boundaries and expectations around the use of aftercare to protect the current inpatient group. They are as follows:

  • Aftercare at Steps Together is not suitable if you have relapsed. We kindly ask that you do not use this group if you have consumed drugs or alcohol. Our Aftercare is not the same as AA/NA/CA which only requires a desire to stop using chemicals.
  • Aftercare is not a forum for debate. As we suggest, many clients align their recovery with AA/NA/CA philosophy which we fully support. We discourage strong opinions being expressed in this group which may offend and upset vulnerable clients. It may create barriers to recovery which is the opposite of what we are trying to achieve.
  • Aftercare at Steps Together is not a crisis intervention. Those experiencing crisis should seek help from appropriate sources such as local Mental Health Crisis Teams / Samaritans / A&E / GP etc.
  • Our aim is to attract clients to recovery and be inclusive to all clients philosophies and beliefs.
